Sexual assault support

If you’ve been sexually assaulted, you are not alone.

Northumbria SARC can support anyone - female, male, trans, non binary, straight, LGBTQI+ - everyone.

It’s important to remember that what happened was not your fault. Sexual assault is a crime, no matter who did it or where it happened. You deserve help and support.

There are people and services that can help you if you’ve been hurt, assaulted or abused. You do not have to report anything to the police unless you want to. You can take your time to think about what feels right for you.

It can still be important to get medical help as soon as possible. This is to check for injuries and to protect you from things like pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

If you do want the assault to be investigated, it’s best to have a medical exam as soon as possible. If you can, try not to wash or change your clothes right away. This can help keep any forensic evidence that might be important later if you choose to report to the police.

You deserve care, safety and support and we are here to help you every step of the way.
